True or False?
Sun protection is only necessary during summer and shouldn't be a concern during winter.
FALSE!
Many people mistakenly believe that sun protection is only necessary during the summer. The fact is that good sun protection is necessary year-round. Although the intensity of the sun's rays may vary during different seasons, skin is exposed to harmful UV rays all year, during any sun exposure, regardless of the weather. Sun protection is necessary during all times of the year!
Sun protection should be utilized during all outdoor activities, including winter sports activities. Snow reflects UV rays increasing the chance of sunburn. Snow skiing or boarding requires the same sun protection as spending a day at the beach or lake in the summer. Since mountain air is thinner, harmful UV rays are more intense and pass through the atmosphere more easily, increasing your risk of sunburn and UV damage to your skin.
Protect your skin 365 days per year!
